Sep. 4th, 2005 05:58 amthe wedding was nice. simple, elegant, friendly. i cried. on my brother's shoulder, briefly, after my speech. i'm so proud of him.
of the 100 or so invited guests, less than 20 were my brother's - and only a few of those weren't family. he spent last year travelling across the country to attend his friends' weddings - none of them could make it to witness his. his best man couldn't make it. simon says - this isn't *my* day, it's janice's.
everyone behaved themselves, as far as feuding family members go - except for my mum who insisted on getting all worked-up anytime fanny farkle was within about 10 ft of her. it's all she talked about and all she focused on until my father and ff left for the evening. the audible sucking of teeth when janice thanked my mum, father and mary (ff) for raising simon was nearly embarrassing. when janice kissed my father (toasting games) my mum and her christian croney turned to each other saying, "ewwww! she kissed trevor!"
after several attempts at trying to calm her down, assertions that ff doesn't matter at this point, blatantly telling her to let it go, i finally pointed in my mum's face with my sternest look and said, "be christian." she didn't like that so much, but at least she tried to stop reacting around me. for fuck's sake woman, it's been 20 years. is she still upset some woman stole her abusive, unfaithful husband from her? i just don't get why it bothers her so goddamn much. let. it. go.
my mother is a bitter, spiteful, closed-minded do-gooder. when the fuck did that happen?
